Fascinating shifts in character pairings (from book one into book two) lead to complex deep interaction between characters. This adults only space opera gets darker in its second story. We face tough issues like enslavement, coping with parental abuse, infidelity, and betrayal. Characters are forced to reevaluate what they thought of people who they once admired. Have I scared off all the young’ins? Aha! If you’re still reading this, there are chores! There.
For the price the omniscient third person point of view paid, Shanti capitalized on being everywhere to highlight a theme that haunts our modern world. Terrorism. We can’t look at people who commit unspeakable acts of violence as human in the real world. They are despicable monsters for hurting others, regardless of their cause. However this idea is safe to explore in someone else’s galaxy and we the Tah as both evil terrorists and freedom fighting idealists. Not many people think they are the bad guys, that’s why we love cartoon super-villians though. Embrace your inner dirt bag, if that’s who you are! Love yourself first, Cobra Commander, if you want anyone else to love you.
Axis is cool. There is a whole bunch more with him and info about he Sarax species in general. I want one. I told Jenny and the boys, “no more pets.” But if you ask me if someone talks and does toilet someplace that you don’t have to deal with, they are a person. No offence to people with trouble doing toilet unaided was intended.
I was given a free review copy at my request and have voluntarily left a review. Any review. That fact that it’s a good one is because the book is good. Which has nothing to do with how awesome I am. You’ll have to find that out for yourself at LARC-SciFi(dot)com.
So if you like the any of the following, you should give this series a try: Voltron Lionforce (from the 80s, can’t vouch for the cgi one), LGBT themes and relationships, space operas, interesting world building focused on politics and religion, reincarnation, deep character development, the love scenes and pace of a young adult novel, the bedroom stuff from an adult only novel (not erotica, you!), talking animals with magic powers, innocent protagonists, and SHOCKING ENDINGS! OMG I was blown away by the last paragraph reveal…
