Shiva XIV ****
By Lyra Shanti

Ancient prophecy has been fulfilled and the prophet of the Dei has been reborn. Ayn is the reincarnated soul of Adin, who formed a religion from science, only he was born with boy and girl bits. He is raised on a world that was colonized by humanity long ago. His people seem to have distanced themselves from science, but not everyone in their galaxy shares their beliefs. Will Ayn be the next great spiritual leader for his people? Will enemies of the Dei destroy him? Find out for yourself! It’s a great read.

I really liked Shanti’s casual approach to introducing telepathy.

I was intrigued by Ayn’s unique gender. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story from that point of view before. I think Ayn’s very unique plight also touches on a theme about people living with their own secrets and how others react to and interact with those secrets if they are revealed. I think Ayn exemplifies that nervous teen who didn’t want to face some of their personality.

The world building caught my attention. There are three distinct civilizations present and a few other groups operating on the fringes of their societies. An epic is certainly underway!

I scored a free copy while this beauty of a book was on promo at Amazon and have voluntarily left a review. Any review. That fact that it’s a good one is because the book is good. Which has nothing to do with how awesome I am. You’ll have to find that out for yourself @S_Shane_Thomas on Twitter.

Ayn’s innocence comes from his sheltered upbringing and his naiveté carries him into the places a religious icon should not dare to go. This series promises to show growth as the next generation of this galaxy’s leaders reaches adulthood and immediately tests their worth.

There is one scene near the end that I feel lands this book somewhere between the PG13 and R rating. Personally, it’s too much for my nine year old, but I recall encountering things more graphic by the age of fourteen. When I imagine the characters, from this book, I like to see them in the original Voltron era anime style.
